Why convert a PDF to images?

Images are easier to use in many places where PDFs are not accepted or awkward to view. Common reasons include:

  • Posting a page of a document, a flyer or a certificate on social media.
  • Inserting a page into a presentation, a website or a chat message.
  • Uploading a document to a form that accepts only JPG or PNG.
  • Creating thumbnails or previews of a document.

Choosing the resolution

DPI (dots per inch) sets how many pixels each inch of the page becomes. An A4 page is about 8.3 × 11.7 inches, so the resolution determines the final image size:

DPIA4 page size (approx.)Best for
72595 × 842 pxQuick previews, thumbnails, small file sizes
1501240 × 1754 pxScreens, social media, documents that need to be readable (recommended)
3002480 × 3508 pxPrinting and zooming in on small text

Higher DPI gives sharper images but bigger files and slower conversion. For very large pages, the resolution is reduced automatically to stay within the limits of your browser.

JPG or PNG?

JPG is ideal for pages that are mostly photos or colorful designs, and it keeps files small. PNG is lossless and keeps text, tables and diagrams perfectly sharp, at the cost of larger files. If a page is mostly text, PNG often looks noticeably cleaner.

Is it safe to convert confidential PDFs?

Yes. The conversion uses a PDF rendering engine that runs inside your web browser, so your document is never uploaded to a server. Only the images you choose to download are saved, and only on your own device.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF to JPG converter free?
Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up, no limits and no watermarks.
Can I convert only one page?
Yes. Type the page number in the Pages box, for example 3, and only that page is converted.
What resolution should I choose?
150 DPI is a good default for viewing and sharing. Choose 300 DPI if you plan to print the images or need to zoom in on small text.
Why do I get a ZIP file?
When you convert more than one page, all the images are packed into a single ZIP file so you don’t have to download them one by one.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The pages are rendered in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
