Three ways to split a PDF
- Extract pagesPull out just the pages you need, such as a single invoice, a chapter or a signed page, into a new PDF.
- One file per pageTurn a 20-page scan into 20 separate PDFs in one click.
- Equal partsSplit a long document into parts of 2, 5, 10 or any number of pages, for example to meet upload limits.
- Original qualityPages are copied exactly. Text stays selectable and images keep full resolution.
- Live previewBefore you split, see how many files and pages you will get.
- PrivateSplitting happens in your browser and the document is never uploaded.
When do you need to split a PDF?
PDFs often contain more than you want to share. A bank sends a year of statements in one file, a scanner saves a whole stack of receipts together, or a contract includes pages that only one person needs to sign. Splitting lets you send exactly the right pages, keep files under upload limits and organize documents more clearly.
- Send only the relevant pages of a report or textbook chapter.
- Separate a batch scan into individual documents.
- Extract one invoice or payslip from a combined statement.
- Break a large file into smaller parts that fit email or portal size limits.
How to write page ranges
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
3 | Page 3 only |
1-5 | Pages 1 to 5 |
1-3, 7, 10-12 | Pages 1, 2, 3, 7, 10, 11 and 12 |
8- | Page 8 to the last page |
-4 | Page 1 to page 4 |
By default, all selected pages are combined into one new PDF, in the order you typed them. Tick Save each range as a separate PDF to get one file per range instead.
Does splitting change the quality?
No. The pages are copied into the new file exactly as they are in the original. Fonts, images, vector graphics and selectable text are all preserved. The new files are usually smaller simply because they contain fewer pages.
Private by design
Most online PDF splitters upload your document to their servers. This tool reads and splits the PDF entirely inside your web browser, so confidential files such as bank statements, medical reports and contracts never leave your device.
Need to put pages back together, or combine pages from several documents? Use Merge PDF.
