Why convert PNG images to PDF?
PNG is the usual format for screenshots, diagrams, charts, logos and digital drawings, because it keeps text and sharp edges perfectly clear. But when you need to share several of them, a single PDF is far more convenient than a folder of loose images: it keeps the pages in order, opens on every device, prints properly and can be attached as one file.
- Bug reports and support tickets: combine screenshots of each step into one document.
- Tutorials and documentation: turn a series of screenshots into a printable guide.
- Design reviews: share mockups and diagrams as one PDF for comments.
- Homework and notes: collect scanned or photographed pages saved as PNG.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
PNG images can contain transparent areas, for example a logo with no background or an icon with rounded corners. Pages in this PDF are stored as standard photographic images, which can’t be transparent, so every transparent pixel has to be filled with a color. Most converters silently use black or white. Here you choose the color yourself: white suits documents, while a brand or slide color can make graphics look intentional.
Getting the sharpest result
- Use high quality for text. Screenshots contain fine text that shows compression artifacts easily. Set the quality slider to 95–100% for documentation.
- Use “Same as image” for slides. Each page then matches the screenshot exactly, with no white border.
- Use A4 or Letter for printing. Images are scaled to fit the page and centered, with a margin if you choose one.
- Keep file size in check. Many full-screen screenshots at 100% quality can produce a large PDF. If it must fit an email, try 85% quality first.
PNG to PDF vs JPG to PDF
Both tools use the same converter and accept any image format. This page adds a background color option for transparent PNGs and suggests settings for screenshots and graphics. For photos, see JPG to PDF. To add the result to other documents, use Merge PDF.
