When do you need to organize a PDF?

  • Scanned documents out of order. Feeding pages into a scanner in batches often leaves them shuffled, reversed or upside down.
  • Preparing an application. Put the cover letter first, then the form, then supporting documents in the order a portal or office asks for.
  • Removing extras. Drop blank pages, ads or duplicate pages before you share a report.
  • Double-sided printing. Insert blank pages so each chapter or section starts on a new sheet.
  • Building one document from several. Combine invoices, receipts and statements into a single PDF and arrange them by date.

How to reorder PDF pages

After you add a file, every page appears as a numbered thumbnail. On a computer, click and drag any page to its new position; the other pages move aside to show where it will land. On a phone or tablet, hold and drag the ⠿ handle in the corner of the page so the screen can still scroll normally. Keyboard users can focus a page with Tab and press Alt + arrow keys to move it, R to rotate it and Delete to remove it.

Organize vs. merge, split and rotate

TaskBest tool
Join whole files end to endMerge PDF
Change page order, mix pages from several filesOrganize PDF (this tool)
Rotate every page or a range like “all even pages”Rotate PDF
Remove pages by number from a long PDFDelete PDF Pages
Cut one PDF into several filesSplit PDF

Organize PDF is the most flexible of these because you see the pages, which is ideal for documents up to a few hundred pages.

Does reorganizing reduce quality?

No. Pages are copied into the new PDF exactly as they are, including text, fonts, images, links and annotations, so nothing is re-compressed. Rotating only changes the page’s rotation setting, which every PDF reader respects. If you need a smaller file afterwards, run it through Compress PDF.

Private by design

All the work happens inside your browser. Your PDFs are never uploaded, which makes the tool safe for contracts, medical records and financial documents. Password-protected PDFs need to be opened with Unlock PDF first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the order of pages in a PDF?
Add the PDF, then drag the page thumbnails into the order you want and click “Save & download PDF”.
Can I combine pages from different PDFs?
Yes. Click “Add PDF” to add more files. Their pages join the grid, and you can mix them in any order.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On touch screens, drag pages using the ⠿ handle in the bottom-right corner of each page. The page buttons are always visible.
Will form fields and links still work?
Page content, links and annotations are copied with each page. Interactive form fields may lose their links to each other when pages from several PDFs are mixed.
Is there a page limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large PDFs depend on your device’s memory; a few hundred pages work well on most computers.
