Why remove the audio from a video?
- Background noise: wind, traffic or chatter can ruin an otherwise good clip. Mute it and add music in your editor or social app instead.
- Privacy: remove conversations or names that were picked up while recording.
- Presentations and websites: silent videos autoplay in slides and on web pages without surprising viewers.
- Copyright: platforms may block or demonetize videos with copyrighted music playing in the background.
How it works
Your browser plays the video and records the picture into a new file, without the audio track. Because everything happens on your device, nothing is uploaded, but the process runs in real time: a 2-minute video takes about 2 minutes. Keep the tab open until the progress bar finishes.
| Quality setting | Use it for |
|---|---|
| High | Editing further, archiving, presentations on big screens |
| Standard | Most uses: social media, chat apps, websites |
| Smaller file | Email attachments and upload limits |
Want to keep the audio instead?
If you need the sound but not the picture, use Video to MP3. To cut out part of a video first, use Trim Video, and to make the result smaller, try Compress Video.
Supported formats
Any video your browser can play, including MP4, WebM and most MOV files. The result is saved as MP4 in Chrome, Edge and Safari, or WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
