Why do videos record sideways?
Phones store the orientation of a video in a small piece of metadata, and some apps, older players, TVs and websites ignore it. The result is a video that looked fine on your phone but plays sideways on a laptop or after uploading. Videos started in portrait and then turned to landscape, or recorded with orientation lock on, can also come out the wrong way.
This tool rotates the actual frames of the video, so the fix works everywhere, no matter which player is used.
Which rotation do I need?
| Your video looks… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Lying on its left side (top of the picture points left) | ↻ 90° right |
| Lying on its right side (top points right) | ↺ 90° left |
| Upside down | 180° |
| Text reads backwards, like in a mirror | Mirror horizontally |
Not sure? Click each option and watch the preview until the video is upright.
How long does it take?
The video is re-recorded in your browser in real time, so a 1-minute video takes about a minute. Keep the tab open until it finishes. The result is saved as MP4 in Chrome, Edge and Safari, or WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
